Can
you tell me more about the staff at the surgery?
We
employ a full complement of support staff, including a Practice
Manager, Assistant Practice Manager, IT Manager, Nurses, Secretaries and Receptionists.
Doctors are also assisted by District Nurses, Health Visitors,
a Midwife and Physiotherapist. They complete the Primary Care
team whose aim is to provide the best possible care for Poplars
patients.
Does the surgery have access for people with disabilities?
Yes,
the premises and toilet facilities are accessible to people
with disabilities and wheelchair users.
Any
patients having problems accessing the surgery should ring the
bell at the front door when someone will come to offer assistance.
Patients unable to use the stairs can see the doctor of their
choice on the ground floor. Please inform the receptionist when
booking the appointment that this is the case so that prior
arrangements can be made. Patients wishing to see Dr Clay who
cannot access the stairs should either ask for the last morning
appointment available or if possible ask for a Tuesday evening,
when there is more ground floor room availability. Patients
wishing to see Dr Walker who cannot access the stairs are requested
to ask for the last morning appointment available or book for
a Monday or Wednesday morning if possible .
Can
I complain about or compliment the Practice?
Yes!
If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the care you receive
at Poplars, please contact our Practice Manager. We operate
an in-house complaints procedure in accordance with a requirement
of our contract with the National Health Service.
Alternatively
,you can contact PALS (Patient Advice & Liaison Service)
on 0121 332 1970 which is a service to help with any concerns
you have. The service is available Monday to Friday 8.00 am
to 4.30 pm.
If
you are happy with our service, please tell us and others too!
How
do I arrange for a repeat prescription?
Patients
taking repeat medication will have received a computer-produced prescription
form with a tear-off sheet on the right hand side. When your
medication is almost finished, this sheet should either be taken
to the surgery and popped into the ‘repeat prescription’
box at reception, or sent by post. Please give at least 2 working days notice for your prescription to be processed.
Only requests made using the tear-off slip will be processed.
There is a designated prescription line (0121 377 2138) for
use by the housebound and elderly (aged 70+) only. The line
is open from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm Monday to Friday. You can also
use the on-line repeat prescription
form.
Is there a treatment room and do the doctors carry out
minor surgery?
Yes,
the treatment room has facilities for minor surgery and the
doctors perform a wide range of procedures. Our nurses run a
cryosurgery clinic, where warts and other spots may be removed.
A doctor should be consulted first.
Is the Practice used for training purposes?
Yes,
the Poplars is an accredited GP training practice where qualified
doctors work for periods of 6-12 months during their training
as GPs. These doctors are called ‘GP Registrars’.
What if I need a non-NHS medical examination?
The
doctors at Poplars are happy to provide medical examinations
for special reasons, for instance employment, fitness to drive,
insurance or solicitor reports. However, these examinations
require lengthy appointment slots and, as special arrangements
must be made, a fee is charged, as is the case with doctors
signing passports , insurance forms etc.
